Dhanwantharam Thailam

Art of Vedas

A classical Vāta-śāmaka abhyanga oil described in the Ayurvedic texts (Dhanvantaram Taila). Prepared in a sesame-oil base by the traditional taila-pāka vidhi using a decoction (kvātha) and paste (kalka) of Daśamūla, Bala and other Vāta-balancing herbs as per the classical recipe. It is traditionally used to nourish nerves, muscles and joints, and is valued in post-natal (sūtikā) care and Kerala massage therapies.

How to use

  • Warm to body temperature.

  • Massage with long strokes on limbs and gentle circles over joints (10–15 min).

  • Leave on 20–30 min; mild swedana (warm compress/steam) may follow.

  • Suitable for full-body Abhyanga, Mūrdhni Taila/Shiro-abhyanga, Pichu, and localized Basti applications under professional guidance.

How it’s made
Sesame oil is slowly cooked with the prescribed herbal decoction and fine herbal paste until the oil reaches the proper pāka (stage), then filtered—preserving the lipid-soluble actives of the herbs.

Safety
External use only. Patch-test first; avoid eyes and broken/irritated skin. Do not use during fever or immediately after meals. Store cool and dry.
